For eight years Olga Chuprova from Naryan Mar worked as an expert with the regional archive, but recently her job was downsized and she, a highly trained professional with a university degree, found herself at a loss of what to do. Once the initial shock subsided, Olga decided to take a few self-education courses and, among other things, signed up for Your Course: Digital Literacy training. Being a competent PC user, she quickly mastered the entire Curriculum, successfully passed the Certificate Test and received her Digital Literacy Certificate. The new knowledge and skills along with restored self-confidence enabled her to get the job of the head curator at the Pustozyorsk state reserve of history, landscape and architecture.

Elena Ivanova: “I want to launch my own online shop”

Internet technologies have become an indispensable tool in industry, education and business, and XXI century life without them is all but unthinkable. For a modern woman the Internet is both a knowledgeable friend and a business opportunity. Elena Ivanova, an economist from Togliatti, loves arts and crafts and spends most of her free time creating stain glass designs and making all sorts of household items out of wood, iron, fabric, paper and natural materials. Once she posted pictures of her crafts online, she quickly began receiving orders and understood that it could become a very profitable venture. Now Elena wants to launch her own online shop without having to hire professional website designers which means that she will need more advanced ICT skills. However Elena is undaunted: her ambition of owning an online boutique of exclusive arts and crafts is too strong to stop now.

Ludmila Abletz, a nurse working in the local ER, signed up for the training because her son was about to start school and needed her help. Now Ludmila is a confident PC user, and her digital skills have also helped her to a new job: she has been promoted to the position of a database manager in her emergency room.

According to the team of the Digital Literacy Center at the Russian State University for the Humanities in Samara, their trainee Galina Arkhipova is quite a unique figure. Despite her age, she is full of energy, enthusiasm and determination. An alumna of Your Course: Digital Literacy, Galina is full of thanks for the many opportunities that have now opened up for her. She has become an active member of several Internet forums and communities, regularly shops online and is getting ready to become a volunteer at the Digital Literacy Center.

Your Course: Digital Literacy has made a great difference in the life of Natalia Sevostyanova from Moscow. After graduating from a vocational college, Natalia couldn’t find suitable work. However when she took the training and mastered MS Office applications, within two weeks after receiving her Digital Literacy Certificate she successfully passed her job interview and was hired as a checkout assistant with one of large Moscow supermarkets.

Zhanna Mironycheva, a former factory worker, knows all about blessings in disguise. When her factory was restructured many jobs were downsized, and a lot of people were fired or transferred. As Zhanna’s position didn’t call for any special qualifications, it didn’t pay very well, and she too had to decide what she wanted to do next. It was a turning point in her career, and it was then that Zhanna began mastering computer technologies, which in the end led her to a new and interesting job with a higher salary.
