| YCDL Center Launch in Tomsk | On June 10, 2010, A.S. Pushkin regional library in Tomsk launched its authorized YCDL Center. It is an important event for residents of Tomsk and Tomsk region, since the YCDL Center will now provide digital literacy training to those populations that have had no access to ICT technologies, thus helping them to ac-quire basic computer competence and become full-fledged members of information society.
The launch was attended by Vladimir Klyuev, the Chair of IT and Communications Committee of the local administration; Aleksandrina Matveyeva, assistant director of the regional Department of Culture; Inessa Grikurova, Microsoft Russia strategic programs manager; Aleksandr Chernyshev, Microsoft’s representa-tive for working with local authorities and self-government bodies; Ekaterina Gritzai, marketing manager for Microsoft in Siberia and the Far East; Dmitry Kochabov, partnership manager for Tomsk; Nina Bara-banshchikova, the director of A.S. Pushkin library, as well as representatives of partner organizations, li-brarians, YCDL trainees, IDEA alumni and library members.
The new YCDL Project will enable Tomsk residents not only to acquire basic computer skills but also to ex-pand and upgrade their digital competencies, which is an important advantage for people of various ages and social positions.
