On 8 June 2010, Novosibirsk regional academic library launched its YCDL Center. The launch was at-tended by representatives of the local ministry of culture, members of Novosibirsk Regional Council and the Public Chamber, representatives from the mayor’s office, Microsoft, RF Pension Fund, local NGOs, YCDL trainees, computer training alumni, directors of local libraries and the YCDL Center trainers. Among the honored guests were other YCDL Project participants: Svetlana Klimova, the director of the Western Sibe-ria branch of the IT Institute, and Tatyana Lyutzuk, the coordinator of the YCDL Center of a local organiza-tion for children with disabilities.
“I am very happy to be here at the launch of the YCDL Center, since such projects pave the way for much personal growth,” said Natalya Yaroslavtzeva, the minister of culture in Novosibirsk region. “The ministry of culture is fully behind such initiatives, and we are grateful to Microsoft Corporation for its proactive interest and support.”
By the time of the Center’s official launch, it had already graduated two groups of trainees, awarding per-sonalized YCDL Certificates to thirteen alumni. The YCDL Center in Novosibirsk estimates that by the end of 2010 it will have awarded at least 490 YCDL Certificates.
