| YCDL Center Launch in Yoshkar Ola | On 19 May 2010, Mari National University in Yoshkar Ola launched its YCDL Center with plans to open its branches in school information centers of Mari El’s various regions.
The launch was attended by Vyacheslav Pashin, the minister of industry, transportation and roads; Galina Shvetzova, the minister of education; Anatoly Ivanov, the vice-Chairman of the Mari El State Assembly; Vladimir Markin, the director of the department for printed media and mass communications; Leonid Ga-ranin, the Chair of Yoshkar Ola Parliamentary Assembly; and Aleksey Sychev, acting director of the state employment service in the Republic of Mari El.
Microsoft and PH International were represented by Kirill Semenikhin, Microsoft’s business development manager in the Volga Federal District; Yulia Saviro, social projects manager in Microsoft Russia; Maksim Ivashkevich, Microsoft’s representative for working with government bodies in the Volga Federal District; YCDL director Ekaterina Fedotova; and YCDL coordinator Yulia Gorbunova.
The launch of the YCDL Center is a landmark event for the Republic, since the Center will now provide digi-tal literacy training to those Mari El populations that have had no access to ICTs, thus enabling them to ac-quire computer and Internet skills and to fully integrate into the new information society.
