| YCDL Center Launch in Omsk | On 9 June 2010, the NTC School for Supplementary Vocational Education officially launched its YCDL Center, planning to provide digital literacy training for at least 500 people within its first year.
The launch was attended by representatives of the local ministry of industry, transportation and communi-cations, the ministry of labor and social development, the ministry of education, the Pension Fund of Omsk region, local NGOs, Microsoft, as well as trainers and alumni of the NTC School.
In his opening address Aleksei Reshetenko, the director for regional development in Microsoft Russia, said that in terms of public access to ICTs Russia is still behind many developed countries, and so the launch of a new YCDL Center is “an important step towards addressing the situation.”
According to YCDL Center coordinator Maria Shlyushinksaya, “in the age of modern IT technologies and their expansion to all spheres of professional and social life, the need for effective digital literacy training for all population groups is especially relevant and urgent”.
