Tvoy Kurs Presentations in Saratov on Russian Internet Day

On 7 April 2011, Russian Internet Day, Elena Kudrina, the Tvoy Kurs Center coordinator from Saratov State University, held a series of presentations of Microsoft’s Your Course: Digital Literacy initiative. The first presentation was addressed to local students training to be computer science teachers – people who will carry digital literacy to the general population and promote safe and secure Internet usage. The second presentation targeted students of the Retraining Institute of Saratov State University – faculty members and leaders of Russian universities, who are taking the federal retraining program “IT Competence for University Faculty Members” since most of them teach disciplines, unrelated to the field of computer science.

During the presentations Elena Kudrina talked about various programs included in Microsoft’s Your Course: Digital Literacy initiative and the work of the Tvoy Kurs Center in Saratov State University. She also demonstrated the 80,000,000 Presentation, developed by Tvoy Kurs director Ekaterina Fedotova about the general level of digital literacy in Russia. The presentation triggered animated response and led to a lively discussion of the digital gap in the Russian Federation and feasible ways of addressing it.

The presentations were followed by an invitation to take the Digital Literacy Certificate Test. All university students passed the test with flying colors, while faculty members decided to take the test on the last day of their retraining course, April 15.
