| It’s Dogged that Does It! |
Recently the Digital Literacy Center of the Moscow Academy of Finance and Law held a special course for senior citizens who signed up for training after an intense Digital Literacy advertizing campaign in regional newspapers and social support centers. The course set a new age record: the oldest trainee was eighty-eight years old!
During the course it was decided to extend the training time-wise since many of the trainees were not coping with the standard pace of the training. A separate session had to be held on computer mouse skills. The trainees were especially interested in Computer Basics and the Internet and the World Wide Web as the modules that would equip them with skills necessary for online networking and interaction. Many of them created e-mail accounts and got registered in various social networks. After taking the course in Computer Security and Privacy most of the trainees installed antivirus software on their home PCs.
In their feedback the senior citizens said many encouraging words and were very positive about their training experience. The congenial atmosphere during the training alleviated their anxiety and helped the trainees to be more confident in dealing with computers and other IT equipment. The trainees never lacked questions for trainer Tatiana Kohl, who trained a new trainer during the first week and encouraged him to start working as soon as the second week of the course.
After the course was over, word of mouth advertising kicked in, and many more people started signing up for the training, having heard positive things about the Digital Literacy Center from their friends and relatives.
