| Your Course: Digital Literacy Presented at the Vacancy Fair for College Graduates in Togliatti | On 12 August 2010, the Togliatti municipal employment center held a Vacancy Fair for college graduates. It was held in one of the largest local venues, the Volgar Sports Center. The Digital Literacy Center of Togliatti State University was one of the Fair’s most active participants, offering college grads full information on its training courses and events and providing an immediate opportunity to take the Digital Literacy Certificate Test and receive Microsoft’s Digital Literacy Certificate. In the four hours of the Fair twenty-two college graduates successfully completed the test and received their DL Certificates. Twenty-four people didn’t score high enough to pass; however most of them missed only by one point and decided to retake the test at home, with minimum distractions, and get the certificate later. The mobile computer class organized by the YCDL Center team was engaged to full capacity but because of the smallness of the site and limited number of computer workstations not everyone who wanted to take the test was able to do so.
Most visitors of the Vacancy Fair were clearly interested in free computer training offered by the Digital Literacy Center. More often than not, younger job seekers opted for the online self-study option while their parents and other older people signed up for a training course at the Digital Literacy Center. The YCDL Center team handed out more than 150 brochures about the YCDL Center of Togliatti State University.
According to feedback received from the Vacancy Fair’s visitors, the Digital Literacy Center’s overall presence and presentation, with its computer equipment, bright posters and friendly trainers Irina Dudina, Svetlana Mikheyeva and Olga Naidenova, was very appealing, and the obvious practical advantages offered to job seekers (immediate testing, certification, small State University souvenirs) attracted many people. The Digital Literacy Center team hopes that for many job seekers the Digital Literacy Certificate will prove to be the Golden Ticket to their optimal employment.
