| Your Course: Digital Literacy for Faculty l Retraining |
Togliatti State University has offered its staff and faculty members a seventy-two hour retraining course for higher education specialists “Developing Virtual Educational Multimedia Resources,” which contains a twelve hour module on MS Office productivity programs based on the Your Course: Digital Literacy Curriculum. Among those who have already completed the training are faculty members from the university’s Art, Math, Science, Engineering and Law Departments. The program was developed by YCDL trainers I. Dudina and O. Mikheyeva and approved by the RF Agency for Education.
During the twelve hour ICT module college professors learned to develop educational resources using
Microsoft Office productivity programs including Word, Excel, Power Point, Visio and Publisher. To ensure the basic IT literacy all the staff and faculty were encouraged to take the YCDL course in Computer Basic. For some of them the training was a pleasant surprise enabling them to finally get the hang of basic MS Office applications and become more confident in dealing with digital materials and data. More advanced users – especially those in the Art Department – were interested in exploring multimedia technologies. They will be using their new skills to improve the quality of their educational resources and optimizing their classroom activities. Another surprise awaits them all in September when, along with retraining certificates, they receive their Microsoft’s Digital Literacy Certificates.
