| Digital Literacy Center Launched in the Moscow Academy of Finance and Law | In view of the challenges issued by the E-RUSSIA federal program, the task of developing e-government services and training Russian citizens in modern ICT skills is becoming more and more pressing. With this in mind, the Moscow Academy of Finance and Law, one of the leading Russian universities, is planning to organize and facilitate basic digital literacy training for more than 10,000 people in 2010 alone.
On 14 July 2010, the Moscow Academy of Finance and Law launched its own digital literacy center as part of Microsoft’s Your Course: Digital Literacy initiative. The opening ceremony was attended by Nikolai Pryanishnikov, the President of Microsoft Russia; Yury Pegasov, deputy minister for IT and telecommunications in the Government of Moscow; Aleksandr Naidanov, assistant prefect of Moscow’s Southeast administrative district; Ekaterina Fedotova, the director of the YCDL Project; and Aleksei Zabelin, the President of the Moscow Academy of Finance and Law.
The Academy received official authorization for launching the Your Course: Digital Literacy Center, and Nikolai Pryanishnikov, the President of Microsoft Russia, awarded YCDL Certificates to the new Center’s first alumni. By the time of the launch, the Academy’s digital literacy center had already trained more than seventy people in all the five courses of the Digital Literacy Curriculum, from computer basics and MS Office and Internet skills to fundamentals of computer and online security and digital media.
In the nearest future the Moscow Academy of Finance and Law plans to launch more than fifteen digital literacy centers in its various locations throughout the city as well as in its branches in Kirov, Vladimir, Volgograd, Kaliningrad, Kaluga, Yaroslavl, Orsk, Tver and several other cities and towns.
